Spot by NetApp is a CloudOps portfolio designed to help customers securely and reliably deploy, operate, and scale applications and infrastructure in public clouds. By leveraging machine learning and analytics to automate and optimize cloud infrastructure, Spot enables applications teams to focus on development instead of worrying about infrastructure.
A recent white paper from research firm IDC reports that businesses are using Spot to boost the productivity of IT staff, including their infrastructure, application development, and DevOps teams. Through in-depth interviews with Spot customers, IDC found that Spot delivers “significant benefits” to these organizations. Operational efficiency is chief among these benefits, with 41% of companies saying that using Spot results in more efficient IT infrastructure staff and 30% reporting more productive DevOps teams as a result of Spot’s product suite.
The organizations interviewed by IDC represent a cross-section of Spot users whose tech companies ranged in revenue from $171 million to over $9 billion. A representative of one of the companies commented, “Because Spot is a managed service that handles Kubernetes clusters, it helps us maintain clusters and control costs without the need for hands-on management.”
Speaking of cost savings, IDC’s analysis of Spot by NetApp also shows that businesses can realize a marked decrease in their public cloud costs by deploying Spot to better leverage spot instances and prevent wasted storage and compute resources. IDC puts the reduction of public cloud-related spending at approximately 21%. One interviewee commented, “Autoscaling helps with costs. You could call this resource efficiency, but really the complexity of managing autoscaling is greater than that. It’s about resource efficiency, cost reduction, and then managing the complexity of our node pools.”
The Spot by NetApp CloudOps portfolio gives organizations more value for their public cloud. Spot optimizes and automates cloud operations to help organizations ensure performance efficiency, reduce complexity, and optimize costs. Spot’s suite of CloudOps products offer:
- Cloud management and governance
- Infrastructure automation and optimization
- Open-source data applications
- Cloud security posture management
Enterprises that rely on public cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud stand to reap significant benefits from the Spot suite of cloud automation and optimization apps.
